S-Max hits the ground running
11-Apr-2006
Cork, 11 April 2006 – Ford Ireland has announced the Irish line-up for the new S-MAX sports activity vehicle, which goes on sale here in June. The S-MAX is targeting the family motorist who wishes to enjoy the style and fun of a “driver’s car” while retaining the practicality of a 5 or 7 seater people carrier.
The S-MAX range for Ireland is comprised of 15 models across three equipment levels and three engines, offering various outputs. Standard specification is high, and a variety of high-tech options are available. All models feature the innovative FordFlatSystem, which enables 2nd and 3rd row seats to be folded flat to the floor, without the need for removal. Up to 32 seating configurations are available in all.
The entry level LX series includes air conditioning, 6-speaker remote CD, heated windscreen, power front windows, front fogs, power heated mirrors and remote central locking among its many standard features. Ford’s Intelligent Protection System (IPS), meanwhile, incorporates driver and passenger airbags, 1 and 2nd row side airbags and knee airbag. A novel personalised system setting is available for audio and navigation, climate control, adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning where fitted.
The mid-range S-MAX Zetec offers 16” alloy wheels as standard, along with front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, interior and perimeter alarm, power rear windows, dual zone climate control, sports seats and double locking.
The range-topping Titanium series adds sporty 17” alloys, 6006 radio/CD, automatic wipers and lights, 2-way power driver seat, leather handbrake grip and inclination sensor.
Among the innovative options on the new S-MAX are Adaptive Front Lighting, Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Avoidance, Hillstart Assist and a Panorama roof. All models are powered by a 2.0 litre Duratec 145 PS petrol or a choice of 1.8 TDCi and 2.0TDCi common rail diesel powertrains, with 5- and 6-speed transmissions.
“S-Max is an exciting new model that pioneers a whole new territory in the marketplace,” explains Eddie Murphy, Chairman and Managing Director, Ford Ireland. “Its emotional design also represents the future direction for Ford models.
“This addition to the Ford family genuinely offers something new to the customer. On the one hand it delivers the style, quality and sportiness of a premium estate model. On the other, it embodies the functional attributes and spacious flexibility of the traditional MPV.”
“With our indigenous population on the increase, and families becoming ever more style-conscious, I believe this car can strike a chord with the Irish motorist.”
The S-MAX is available with either 5 or 7 seats.
