262 Scrappage Offer
Main things to note:
- The Government has introduced a once-off €5,000 scrappage incentive to help drivers switch from an eligible petrol or diesel vehicle to a new electric vehicle (EV).
- The scheme is funded through a €10 million allocation from the Climate Action Fund and is designed to support Ireland’s transition to cleaner, lower-emission transport.
- A maximum of 2,000 grants will be available nationwide under this pilot initiative.
- The scheme is expected to launch on 1 July 2026 and will operate on a strict first-come, first-served basis.
- Demand for the scheme has been exceptionally strong, and it is expected to be significantly oversubscribed.
- This means that receiving an order confirmation for a vehicle in no way guarantees approval for the €5,000 scrappage payment.
- The public should be aware that grant approval depends on meeting all eligibility criteria and the availability of remaining scheme funds at the time of application.
- Cavanaghs of Charleville staff will do its best to try and secure grant acceptance for each customer who applies but simple logic dictates that it will be impossible to satisfy all customer requests during the application window.
- The scrappage incentive is designed to complement existing electric vehicle supports, including the SEAI Electric Vehicle Purchase Grant, where applicable.
- Applications and approvals will be administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).
- Customers considering an electric vehicle are encouraged to place their order early and discuss the application process with the relevant staff member to ensure all required documentation is prepared in advance.
